Daughter of the giant Pallas and the river Styx, she fought on the side of Zeus against the Titans. Excavated from Samothrace island in 1863 - commemorates a Rhodian sea battle. With her billowing dress and wings spread wide against the wind she is the personification of victory. A winged flight was associated with a victory over death. Nike is an aspect of Athena and is essentially an Athena with wings. The Roman's counterpart was Victoria.
